Talon Attends ANCC National Magnet Conference

Talon recently attended the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) National Magnet Conference at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.

This annual event is the most significant nursing conference in the United States and serves as both a celebration of accomplishment for newly designated Magnet organizations as well as a showcase of nursing best practices.

Nurses are often the unsung heroes of the hospital, so it was exciting to validate that our solutions can enable them to thrive.

What Does it Mean to be Magnet?

The ANCC established the Magnet Recognition Program in 1993 as a way to recognize nursing excellence.

ANCC Magnet Hospitals must demonstrate:

  • Higher percentage of satisfied registered nurses
  • Lower RN turnover and vacancies
  • Greater nurse autonomy
  • Improved patient satisfaction

A significant aspect of nursing excellence is shared governance. This represents that all staff should be involved in and committed to eliminate waste, continuously improve, and a desire to implement the latest technologies.

Only about 6% of US Hospitals achieve Magnet designation and, according to a 2013 study, these hospitals have a 14% lower mortality risk and 12% lower failure to rescue rates.

How does Talon Enable Nursing Excellence?

A fundamental principle of Lean methodology is error-proofing, which represents processes with built-in safeguards to eliminate or minimize the risk of mistakes. Error-proofing is introduced to workflows with In-Room Dispensing Cabinets because they only allow the nurse access to a single patient’s medication when retrieving medication for administration at that patient’s bedside.

Talon In-Room Dispensing Cabinets reduce the risk of medication error and promote nursing excellence because they allow nurses to spend more time doing what they love rather than tracking down medications and performing manual audits.

Patient satisfaction is closely tied to nursing satisfaction, so keeping nurses happy not only reduces turnover rates but can also improve patient care.

And when patient care is improved and turnover is reduced, Magnet Status is more likely to be achieved!
